SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – First responders were sent to a crash on Highway 75, near the Plymouth and Woodbury County line, where officials say members of a local basketball team were hurt.

According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received multiple 911 calls in reference to a two-vehicle crash at 12:53 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

In a press release from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, it states a 2014 StarCraft Prodigy bus and a black 2016 Jeep Compass crashed near the intersection of Highway 75 and C80 in Plymouth County, leaving the vehicles partially on the roadway.

The sheriff’s office says the bus was stopped on C80 and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 75 to travel north. At the same time, the Jeep was traveling south on Highway 75, and “a crash occurred within the intersection.”

Officials have confirmed the Remsen St. Mary’s girls’ basketball team was on the bus.

“Upon arrival, crews found a passenger vehicle in the southbound lane fully involved on fire, and a Remsen St. Mary’s school bus in the intersection with impact damage to the driver’s side. Multiple patients were identified. Firefighters immediately initiated patient care while simultaneously extinguishing the vehicle fire,” stated authorities on the Hinton Fire and EMS Facebook page.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says multiple injuries were reported and multiple people were transported to the hospital by ambulance and helicopter.

Due to the number of individuals requiring medical attention, Hinton Fire Rescue says multiple agencies were brought in to help.

“All patients were triaged according to injury severity and transported by available ambulance units,” stated Hinton Fire and EMS.

No further details have been released regarding the injuries from this crash.

At this time, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says the names of individuals are not being released, and the crash remains under investigation by both the sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol.

According to the school’s Facebook page, the girls were in South Dakota Saturday morning for a scrimmage.
